Check it: 450 horsepower, 419 lbs. less than a stock M3.

this BMW looks horrible...but, im sure alot of the designs elements will be used for future cars.....
AndySchneider:
a apropos contribution from the Brand Manager: "I think BMW doesn't make cars, they make joy. This [joy] is about the future and understanding the future." I've heard trance lyrics that make more literal sense than that.

Doesn't seem like the tranny can hold it to well...or the tires for that matter

Guys chase and harass BMW driver and his girlfriend but end up being taught a lesson.
MooseLord:
Those morons in the truck were such a bunch of tools. They started it, and then they start bitching about it

I assume this isn't actually real? Or do some people really have the lack of brains to follow a person around just to pick a fight? Wait.....yes there are people like that. So there is always the possibility of this being real. Maybe? >.>

Despite the additional 80HP of the Audi RS4, it can't pull past a BMW M. And in my experience, because the M is faster off the line, the RS4 can never catch up.
AndySchneider:
on my experience on the track, quattro is a pretty vicious opponent for any rwd vehicle through the corners. oversteer's more fun though.

Just thought I would share a pic of my M3....
zilos:
thanks..i always loved the E36 body style...looks very european...but the new M3 looks sick too..
MooseLord:
Yeah, I don't know. I like the new M3, but it's too generic, the older M3s are evocative of that rally-esque appeal of the 1970's Ms.
zilos:
before the mods or after?...lets just say with themoney I spent on it, I could have bought a New M3. but where is the fun in that?
zilos:
@AndrewMac-yes it is an e36. It has a rieger body kit. The side skirts are OEM M3 skirts though.

MooseLord:
Very cool, I thought it looked a bit modded. Fors the rieger kit help add stability? That front splitter doesn't look stock.

For the first time ever, BMW is coming out with and "M" line for their SUVs.
DavidMcIntosh:
Yup! The porsche cayenne turbo S used to be the king of sports SUVs, but it looks like BMW may now claim that crown.

What's pretty amazing about the X6 is that it weighs 2.5 tons and yet the standard 400bhp 450 lb-ft Torque propels the thing 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. That's faster than alot of coupes! The X6 M has 547bhp with 21 psi of boost, think how fast that thing will be flying...

Owned one of these for a few years. Such an amazing driving experience, easily rivaling a 911, Corvette, and some exotics. Got so many double-takes in her with the black / black color combo. It's a relatively obvious car in the typical colors (blue, red, silver), but in black it's straight gangsta and nobody had a clue what she was.
Ah yes, the good old days...
a great site about the M series of BMW
looks like a promising chassis for a turbocharged v6 or whatever they have planned
daverave:
if they switch to V6s I will be disappointed. I love that BMW is basically the only major manufacturer still making inline six engines. They are so buttery smooth.
MooseLord:
I doubt they will discontiune their inline sixes. However, the e90 M3's 4.0L V8 is actually lighter than the 3.2L i6 used in the previous gen M3.
MooseLord:
Most are. I don't think Porsche uses V6's. They are planning on a V8, which I am excited for.
daverave:
I believe that. It's an absolutely amazing engine. 8500 RPM redline or something like that? I'm just not sure how I feel about a V8 M3. It just doesn't seem ...right.
AndySchneider:
agreed. regardless of how i feel about losing naturally aspirated bmw powerplants i am all for leaving the horsepower arms race and returning to finesse
a year ago
MooseLord:
Thing is, BMW believes you can get just as smuch speed from a turbo'd V6/i6 or even from a four cylinder turbo, you just have to make the car light enough--we're returning to a period like the '70's, where cars are going to be designed to be lighter. I think so anyway.
MooseLord:
They're probably trying to capture a certain sector of muscle car enthusiasts who are jaded by Detroit's current performance when fit and finish is concerned.
daverave:
I hope you are correct about the trend towards lighter cars. Anything over 3000 lbs. and certainly over 3500 lbs. is not a "sports car" in my book. It should also be RWD and have a zippy, free-revving engine. If you don't have to haul around 3800 lbs., you don't need 400 hp!
daverave:
Man, I need to make some cash so I can register and fix my 944. :D All this talk of sportscars has made me itch for a windy road.
MooseLord:
I think half the problem is the regulations imposed by most governments--the safety equipment imposed by most governments is pretty quick. But thats part of the equation
a year ago
daverave:
You have a good point. However, modern cars are also much larger than cars of 20-30+ years ago. Take my 944, for example - about 2675 lbs., but it is not made out of space-age materials. If it was made out of aluminum and carbon fiber, using modern mfg techniques, it'd probably weigh about 2000 lbs. Then you can add 600 lbs of safety equipment and it'd be the same.
daverave:
Yes. Sigh. I've had this conversation a number of times, and the reality seems to be that there aren't very many true sportscars by my (albeit very personal) definition. You've got the MX-5, Lotus Elise/Exige, S2000 (soon to be discontinued), RX-8 (also to be discontinued), maybe the Boxster if you stretch the definition, and?
MooseLord:
Well, I'd argue nearly all the porsche coupes would qualify, simply because of their design to minimize coefficients of drag.
daverave:
Sports cars don't sell well, it seems, except for the MX-5. Even that is a lot bigger/heavier/more expensive now (although, I think it is big enough now that I can actually comfortably drive one).
daverave:
I'm almost as big a Porsche fan that you'll find, but the 911's are just way too big now, and too fancy. IMHO.
MooseLord:
Haha, the MX-5 looks like such a fun car, bit of a chick car, but with a manual tranny, who cares?
daverave:
Agreed. As my friend (who has a 1997 Miata) says, "I drive a gay secretary's car, and I'm totally comfortable with that". LOL
a year ago
MooseLord:
The old ones are definitely more feminine...but the new(ish) Mx5 looks an immensely fun romp. As for fancy styled Porsches, I think only the GT2 and GT3 really fall in that category.

martinv8:
Yes the old one surely look a bit feminine. But the new M series are monster from any viewing point. They are pleasure to drive and look at!

Seems like a cool car. I'd wait for the twin turbo V8 though.
Truth in this poster.
oh carp.
ColinBehr:
Damn, the Z4 is such a nice car (only hard top). Would be great to introduce an M version.
MooseLord:
My guess is that BMW is just putting it on hold now. They've already stretched themselves thin with the M versions for the X6 and the X1, which are dumb cars, but whatever. I think we'll see one by 2011. The Z4's design looks pretty contemporary, so they won't have to redesign the M that much.
