1969 Torino Cobra
A 1969 advert for the Ford Muscle Car Torino Cobra. The gear lever is painted in famed Ford tuner Shelby's colors which suggests that Shelby had some involvement with this car.
ben:
@MooseLord it's great how you can see it begin to fishtail even in a seemingly moderate turn

If only Cops still behaved like this
A 1964 Ad for the Shelby Cobra, a high powered Sports Car that took on Ferraris, the police are illustrated admiring the car...not fining the owner for fitting on glasspacks or exceeding emissions standards.
Horsepower Wars
Horsepower for Cars has risen 112% since 1980. Very interesting for any motorist fan
1961 Oldsmobile
A beautiful muscle car from 1961 that was built before teens went crazy for mustangs and cudas, and when racing was for a more "mature" audience. :)
missmolly324:
I'm giggling at the quotation marks around "mature." I'm sure that makes me "immature." ;-)
ago
MooseLord:
@missmolly324, only reason I quote "mature" is because you needed to be well off to afford (read: older) one of these puppies--they were fairly expensive, but back in the day, they were fast. In 1964, the pony car market appealed to the new youth culture--teens of better off parents might get a V8 mustang, while some adults might get a mustang with a drag racing pack.

Beast is Back in Town
After four weeks of waiting, the Stang is now unleashed in its familiar stomping grounds. Thanks to new control arms (thank you Steeda) and tires, this stang is more agile than ever. How do you say, "Quien es tu papa?"
zilos:
yeah..awesome rims....i think we should all post what cars we ride!..@MooseLord - awesome!..Props bro
ago
MooseLord:
Thanks guys, yea this car is unbelievable to drive now. It's amazing what control arms and new tires can do.
ago
What a beauty!
Saw this @ the Goodguys Muscle Car show in SD!
MooseLord:
The hot rods were in full blast, and you could hear the "chug chug" of the aggressively tuned cams. It was most definitely an audio-visual experience, and to any gearhead, an angel's song
ago
MooseLord:
haha, thank you sir. Clarkson does like '60's sports cars, he's written about how car design basically peaked in the 60's and given the evidence, I'm tempted to agree.

Vintage Racing
Some racing of 60's and early 70's muscle cars at Willow Springs...in the 80's!
Very entertaining if you like 80's music, VHS tapes, or muscle cars going very fast!

MooseLord:
@anorbimdeassis yea, it's definitely quite a site, despite the old fashioned recording (not to mention racing) technology. In a way, I enjoy and appreciate both (although HD cameras and carbon fiber is better).
Btw, at some point in the vid you'll see a 1971 Mach 1 pass the GT 390 by, and that car has a Nascar engine in it (of course this is 1970's Nascar, but still). Wild times for sure. ago

MooseLord:
You couldn't turn either if you had a 700 lb cast iron engine in the front of your car and only unibody construction holding your rear suspension, either :X
;) ago
;) ago
ben:
you are right, but I would build my car to turn because, you know, roads aren't straight. @mooselord we love to disagree
ago
MooseLord:
@BenF, I agree, but to be fair, these cars were absolutely very good at handling...well some of them. The GT 390 (The car featured in the thumbnail) not really (too front heavy). One of the cars on this track was the Shelby GT 350 which at the time could out handle Corvettes and even Ferraris. Slap some modern brakes and tires on the thing and I daresay it will be a match for any modern sports car.
ago
MooseLord:
sports car in the 20-50k range. You have to keep in mind the GT350 weighs around 2,700 lbs.

Bullitt in HD
For Steve McQueen's b-day, one of the most epic car chases in cinema history. Worth watching for the Charger and Mustang muscle cars by themselves!
MooseLord:
@Brent, @AndySchneider, I'm somewhat suspicious of the "1080p" claim, but it does look good even for 720p so I posted. :D

joshrotenberg:
This is pretty cool, especially if you are a local: Bullitt - The Greatest Car Chase
ago
jbelleng:
@joshrotenberg: No way this was actually filmed in SF. Did you see all the street parking?
ago
AndySchneider:
i'd like to see a similar google mapping for the albeit less classic car chase in The Rock
ago
MooseLord:
@candrews911, yup I never did understand why hubcaps were so popular--they seem very inefficient to me.
ago
daverave:
Sadly my video card fails miserably above 480p. IIRC, McQueen did much of the driving himself. This is such a great movie; SF landmarks aside, the pacing and shots of a gritty, pre-yuppified city jibe with my earliest childhood memories. Awesome. Thanks.

Mustang GT 350 Hertz

MooseLord:
You'd think that the world's most powerful air force would use a car a little more aerodynamic for their advertising.
ago
bass:
but you gotta admit the new challenger looks pretty bad ass, better than the new camaro and mustang in my opinion
ago
MooseLord:
I love the new Challenger, but I'd much rather have an older one. The new one is like a boat on wheels.

ya man ur definetely right i just saw my first one in person, looks better in the pictures

Barracuda 2nd Gen
What a classic. Give that thing some new tires and I bet it'd get 0-60 in high 4's.
MooseLord:
I'm not sure. It could just be a purple convertible Barracuda. And Jason, I thought you were all about the second gen Barracudas!?!?
