Dr. John Clifford, USDA Chief Veterinary Officer, announced the discovery of a case of mad cow disease in California on Tuesday. The dairy cow was infected with an off-shoot of the disease and never entered the food market. Health authorities wanted to stress that meats and dairy food are safe for consumption.
