Initial count of these miniature men is 12, but just as soon as they slide around, a 13th man pops up! How is this possible?

Ahcim:  I atleast know that not every part is evenly distributed. The man of the far left loses his hair but does not get a new one back. 2 years ago
angelow:  well, imagine 5 toothpicks. now imagine you break off 1/6ths of the first one, 2/6ths of the second one, ..., 5/6ths of the last one; now you have 2 sets of toothpicks that is of length 5/6ths to 1/6ths. now connect the 1/6ths to the 4/6ths of the other one, 2/6ths to the 3/6ths, 3/6ths to the 2/6ths, 4/6ths to the 1/6ths, and leave the 5/6thses alone. You now end up with 6 toothpicks, of 5/6ths each. 2 years ago
